Twilio to Message Bird Migration

Rekrutek is moving away from using Twilio and instead will use Message Bird for SMS and WhatsApp communication.

Migrate a Customer from Twilio to Message Bird

Use these steps if a customer account was created with Twilio settings and you are changing it over to Message Bird:

  1. SU > SMS: Select Provider

    1. Find Account > Update Account to Bird
  2. Go to Bird to get WID

    1. Select Customer from Dropdown
    2. Grab WID from URL
  3. Go to FTN: Customer Account: Refresh CompSettings > SMS page

  4. SU > Add SMS Number

    1. Find Account
  5. Get Phone Number info from Bird

    1. Go to Customer Workspace https://app.bird.com/
    2. Channels > SMS > Settings
  6. Back to SU > Add SMS Number

    1. Enter info from Bird
    2. Include ‘+1’ for Number
    3. Select Add SMS Number
  7. Set Webhooks for Workspace

  8. Use postman to set:

    1. outbound

    2. inbound

      1. Double check Workspace ID and that URL is pointed to the correct Monolith for the customer account
      2. Links above are to Rekrutek’s postman saved API calls for Bird
      3. Bird does not have UI for setting Callback URLs so can only be done via API thus Postman
      4. Callback URL aka outbound example https://sandbox.rekrutek.ai/callbacks/internal/bird/status
      5. Request URL aka inbound example https://sandbox.rekrutek.ai/callbacks/internal/bird/receive
  9. Go to Customer Account

    1. Test 2-way SMS

      1. Go to Opening
      2. Settings > View Job > Create Applicant > Applicant Profile
  1. The first step in the WhatsApp setup process is to collect all the required information from the customer.

    1. Discuss with the customer the following required information:

      1. Checklist: [WhatsApp Setup] Required Info from Customer
      2. Google Form to provide to Customer for WhatsApp Registration - please use this form!
    2. Google Sheet of Customer Responses

  2. Log in to Message Bird: https://app.bird.com/

  3. Search for the customer’s workspace.

  4. Click WhatsApp → WhatsApp Setup → Add new channel.

  5. Select a phone number (simply purchase a new one if needed).

  6. Follow the steps to connect or create the WhatsApps business account (using all the information from the first step above).

  7. Skip Step 3 and leave Step 4 with the default name for the channel.

  8. Click Install WhatsApp

    1. It may take some time for your number to be ready for use. It is usually ready in 1-2 business days. While you wait, you can continue to the next step and add this WhatsApp number to the customer’s account in the Rekrutek App.
  9. Configure the account for Message Bird and link the newly created number/channel via the Superadmin.

  10. Ensure the account is configured with the Message Bird provider: Superadmin → Select Provider.

  11. Click the account to select it.

  12. Set the Provider to Bird.

  13. Set the Bird Workspace Id. You can grab this from the URL on bird. It is the first GUID in the URL, for example: In https://app.bird.com/workspaces/3fa46874-98b5-4364-8b54-5f2e8763eccb/channels/whatsapp:1/f1d17b14-ba1e-4807-bd40-3b780fecbd7f/configurations the Workspace Id is: 3fa46874-98b5-4364-8b54-5f2e8763eccb.

  14. Click Update

    1. This step is important as it will provision all the necessary webhooks. WE recommend clicking Update even if the Bird Workspace Id was already set.
  15. Superadmin → Add SMS Number

  16. Click to select the account.

  17. Fill in the form.

    1. Phone Number/Short Code: Is the phone number without dashes/spaces but including the +, for example: +19177300194.
    2. Provider: Bird.
    3. Country Code: Select the appropriate country.
    4. Bird Workspace Id: You can grab this from the URL on bird. It is the first GUID in the URL, for example: In https://app.bird.com/workspaces/3fa46874-98b5-4364-8b54-5f2e8763eccb/channels/whatsapp:1/f1d17b14-ba1e-4807-bd40-3b780fecbd7f/configurations the Workspace Id is: 3fa46874-98b5-4364-8b54-5f2e8763eccb.
    5. Bird Channel Id: This is listed on the Settings page when viewing the WhatsApp channel you created above. For example: eb199606-381f-5f96-af0c-d21078574555.
    6. WhatsApp Enabled: Make sure this is checked.
  18. Click Add SMS Number.

  19. Create a WhatsApp message template from Company Settings → WhatsApp Templates*.*

  20. Create a test applicant and try sending a message template. The applicant should receive the message from the configured sender number in WhatsApp. Also verify if incoming messages are working fine by replying back to the message from WhatsApp. If you received the message, the setup is done!

  1. Log in to Message Bird
  2. Profile > Settings
  3. Billing
  4. Plan
  5. SMS Channel
  • Per Bird: Alex Kuleshov:

    • WhatsApp is included with your contract (since we charge for active contacts) the only extra fee will be WhatsApp fees based on use case and country.
    • https://business.whatsapp.com/products/platform-pricing
    • It is the same as SMS but instead of carrier fees it includes Meta/WA fees.
  1. Log in to Message Bird.
  2. Click the Workspace dropdown in the upper left corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Workspaces under the Organization Tab.
  5. Click Create New Workspace.
  1. Log in to Message Bird.

  2. Ensure you are in the correct Workspace by looking in the upper left corner.

    1. It’s the dropdown in far upper left corner.
  3. Click the Workspace dropdown to change Workspaces.

  4. Click Manage Channels.

  5. Click Longcode Numbers.

  6. Click Buy a number blue button in the top right.

  7. Country == United States.

  8. Types == Local.

  9. Re: Search:

    1. Determine the appropriate area code based on the address provided by the customer in the 10DLC Form.
    2. Use Google Maps to check local businesses and once you have 3 that are all same area code and in the same city as the address that should be good.
  10. Click Add to cart.

  11. Click Go to my cart

  12. Click Process payment

  13. Click Skip and activate later

  1. Log in to Message Bird.

  2. From Manage Channels, click 10DLC Compliance.

  3. Click Create new 10DLC brand.

  4. Enter info from 10DLC form.

  5. Click Save and continue.

    1. Repeat until you have entered all the info.
    2. For EIN remove dash aka - or UI will throw Error.
    3. For Contact Phone Number add a +1 or the UI will throw Error.
    4. BRAND VETTING should be ON.
  6. Click Submit brand registry.

  7. Click Submit.
